Whether you choose a nylon carpet or a polyester carpet, both have positive attributes. Polyester carpet will be, for the most part, less expensive than nylon. Polyester carpet may be more forgiving in the stain department due to the stain protection that is a built-in part of the fiber (solution dye).
There are some nylon carpets that are stain forgiving as well, but we will give polyester carpet the slight advantage in stain resistance. When it comes to the performance of a carpet, durability is the #1 concern for most homeowners. The winner, by historical track record, is nylon. It is considered the most durable carpet fiber available.
SmartStrand has the stain resistance of polyester and the claim of durability of nylon, all in one. SmartStrand is only found in Mohawk carpeting. SmartStrand is the most luxurious fiber to the senses.
These are just a few examples of the differences between the two fabrics. You may still want to consider which is softer…polyester! And, what’s best for allergies…it’s a tie!
